DripTech Eco-Flow | Irrigation equipment in Kenya
How irrigation system design works in Kenya
A reliable irrigation system starts with measurements and decisions, not a shopping list. DripTech Eco Flow helps farmers and project teams assess the field, water source, crop layout and operating requirements before selecting equipment.
1. Assess the farm and water source
Record the irrigated area, field shape, elevation changes, crop and planting arrangement. Identify the water source, its dependable supply, seasonal changes and any storage between source and field.
Water quality matters too. Suspended solids, algae, sand and dissolved minerals can affect filtration choices and maintenance. Test or assess the source where the project requires it.
2. Calculate flow, pressure and zones
Estimate the crop and system demand using the actual planting layout and emitter or sprinkler specifications. Divide the field into zones where the available supply cannot operate everything together uniformly.
Hydraulic design checks pipe sizes, friction losses, elevation, fittings and the pressure required at the irrigation device. Pump selection should follow this calculation—not acreage or horsepower alone.
3. Specify components and plan operation
- Mainline, submain and lateral pipe sizes
- Dripline, tape, emitters or sprinklers matched to crop layout
- Filtration and flushing arrangements appropriate to water quality
- Valves, pressure regulation, gauges and zone controls
- Pump, storage and power requirements
- Access for maintenance, repairs and future expansion
4. Prepare, install and test
A design deliverable can include a layout drawing, equipment schedule, design assumptions, operating zones and a bill of quantities. Installation should be followed by flushing, pressure checks, zone-by-zone testing and operator handover.
Final specifications depend on verified site information. A concept estimate is not a substitute for a site-specific hydraulic design.
What to prepare for a design consultation
- Farm location and approximate area
- Crop, row spacing and planting pattern
- Water source, storage and pump details if available
- Field sketch, dimensions, contour information or photographs
- Power availability and project budget range
- Whether you need design only, supply, installation or all three
