Water storage tanks for farm irrigation
A storage tank buffers supply between your water source and the field, smoothing out pump downtime, solar pumping hours, or an intermittent municipal or borehole supply. Sizing it against your daily water demand avoids both running dry mid-irrigation and paying for capacity you never use.
Sizing a tank to your system
A useful starting point is your system's daily water requirement across all beds or zones, plus a buffer for the hours your pump or supply is unavailable — overnight for a solar pump, for example.
Tank position also matters: a raised or elevated tank can supply a basic gravity-fed drip layout without a pump, while a ground-level tank needs a pump to reach field pressure.
