Irrigation BOQ preparation checklist
Use this checklist to assemble the design information needed for a useful irrigation bill of quantities (BOQ). Quantities should be taken from a project layout and verified measurements—not guessed from acreage.
Information needed before measuring quantities
- Farm boundary, dimensions and elevation information
- Crop layout, row spacing and irrigated blocks
- Water source, yield/flow and storage details
- Zone plan, design flow and required operating pressure
- Mainline, sub-main and lateral routes with lengths
- Pump duty point and filtration requirements from calculations
- Valve, fitting, control and application-component details
- Installation scope, site constraints and measurement conventions
BOQ review before pricing
- Use consistent item descriptions, specifications and units
- Separate pipe lengths from counted fittings and equipment
- Identify included accessories, installation and commissioning items
- Mark provisional quantities and assumptions clearly
- Check quantities against drawings and site measurements
- Confirm product substitutions meet the design requirements
- Date the BOQ and note what is excluded
Do not treat a sample BOQ as a final design
An online example helps with format only. A project BOQ requires a site-specific layout, hydraulic design and confirmed quantities; pricing should be based on current supplier quotations and the agreed scope.
